Algebraic simplification problems
Suggestions. A good plan for simplifying these expressions
is to -
- Start by using the distributive law where possible. Select the
expression to apply the rule to by clicking on it, then choose the
rule from the menu.
- Then convert subtraction to addition. This rule operates on an
entire step, so first select the step by clicking on the step's
number, which is to the left of the step.
- Regrouping of terms only works on terms that are added together,
so check that there is no more subtraction. It works across the
entire step, so select the whole step, then the rule.
- The do arithmetic and simplify rule also works across the
entire step, and this will do arithmetic anywhere it finds
opportunities in the step. It also simplfies results, removing
addition and multiplication by zero and such things.
